DelaWELL, administered by the Statewide Wellness Office, has teamed up with the Lt. Governor’s Challenge to create a fun and simple way for State of Delaware employees to get moving.

Regular physical activity can . . .

  • Boost your energy level
  • Help to keep your weight under control
  • Help reduce your risk of developing chronic illnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, and certain types of cancer
  • Provide a way for you to share an activity with family and friends
  • Improve your ability to fall asleep quickly and sleep well
  • Improve memory

Here is how the challenge works

Over a 12-week period, you choose what activities to perform. Click here for a list of activities with corresponding point values. There's no need to invest in expensive equipment or join a gym. Points are earned for every 30 minutes of movement, based on what activities you choose. The more intense the activity, the higher the point value. Participants keep track of their activities, and based on how many points are earned over the 3 months, they may be eligible for a gold, silver or bronze medal.

Medal Levels:

Bronze Medal: 140 - 239 points

Silver Medal: 240 - 339 points

Gold Medal: 340 - 500 points

You do not need to run a marathon to earn a medal in this program. If you walk briskly 3 times per week for 30 minutes, you can earn a bronze medal. Walking briskly 5 times per week for 30 minutes earns you a silver medal, and if you walk briskly for 60 minutes 4 times per week, you can earn the gold medal.

Ready to take the Challenge?
Begins on Tuesday, June 17, 2008 and will run through Tuesday, September 9, 2008.

Two versions of the program are available:

    • Important- Please be sure to type DelaWELL in the box next to “Worksite:” in order to be counted as a participant in this exciting challenge.

    • This online version allows you to input all of your activities, and have your point totals tallied automatically. After 12 weeks, you can enter your total points, and if you are eligible for a medal, one will be sent to you through state mail.

  • For those who do not have computer access, a paper-based logbook is available by calling the Statewide Wellness Office at 302-672-5187 or 1-800-556-6106.

Your health is your most important asset. Invest in physical activity and reap the rewards!
